Spring in Quebec runs from mid-April to mid-June, depending on latitude and elevation. Early May still sees overnight frost north of Quebec City. By late May, all but the highest-elevation campgrounds have opened.
Best for: RV de-winterizing, opening cottages, brook trout fishing, early hiking before bug season peaks.
Watch out for: blackflies (mid-May to late June, worst in the north and woods), mud (deep through mid-May), variable temperatures (15 °C day, 2 °C night common in May).
What to pack: rain gear, insect-proof headnet, fleece, blackfly repellent (DEET or icaridin).
